AI-powered smart glasses developed by a startup called Rokid are finding people with coronavirus.
Fever is one of the major symptoms of Covid-19 and to identify it the technique of thermal scanning is widely used. Rokid, an AI-centric startup in China has developed smart glasses that helps identify people with Covid-19 via thermal imaging. The glasses can check the temperature of several hundred people within two minutes.
The glasses use a thermal imaging camera to measure someone’s temperature from up to 1 meter away and when it identifies someone with a fever, they send an automated apprise to staff and registers digital records. Several sets of AI smart glasses have been supplied to highway police & public security bureau of Hangzhou. Thermal imaging is extensively used to identify COVID infected patients but it isn’t always effective as it measures only the skin temperature and not the core body temperature. But they are a competent tool for mass surveillance.
