COVID-19 has definitely led to the cancellation of a large number of travel plans. The reason behind this has been lockdown in many parts of the world. Many airports around the world have been closed to avoid the inflow of tourists. Thus, the travel and tourism industry has been one of the worst-hit industries. While there has been a downfall in revenues of tourist attractions, vacation rental apps have suffered their share of losses.  Also, advancement in streaming services over the past decade has almost ended the concept of a video store like Blockbuster. This has led to the last Blockbuster in the world to be listed on Airbnb.

The vacation rental company has recently announced on social media that the final Blockbuster store will soon be available to book for an overnight stay on Airbnb. The last existing Blockbuster store is located in Bend, Oregon. According to Airbnb listing, some lucky viewers who live in the Bend, Oregon area will be able to book one-night stays for up to four people for just $4 per night. Blockbuster will host up to three quarantine pods of Deschutes County guests for a socially-distanced movie night from September 18-20. The place has been transformed into a living room from a 90s sitcom to evoke nostalgia among viewers. Guests will have complete control over the space once they get the keys, giving them access to enough classic movies to watch until sunrise, plus all the snacks they can handle.

Airbnb is viewing the last Blockbuster studio as an escape to the present by travelling to good old times, thus generating a feeling of nostalgia. Thus, realigning current developments with the past times can be the new smart move to develop empathy by Airbnb. As the current times come with threat to the Travel and Tourism industry, they have also brought opportunities for development of new market trends in association with new reality.
