PPE waste is turning out to be one of the largest ecological concerns. Given the circumstances, it is also a kind of waste that cannot be eradicated or replaced easily. While the production currently will continue to happen it is important to regulate its disposal in seas and oceans. Dr. Binish Desai also known as the ‘Recycle Man’ of India came up with a solution to this waste.

His latest invention Brick 2.0 serves as an effective solution during the current plastic crisis. Dr. Binish Desai received popularity in 2010 when he designed P-Block, bricks made from industrial paper, and gum waste. Recently he spent his few months in lockdown working on his recent product which converts discarded face-masks into bricks and is now gearing up for commercial production.

Desai’s team has successfully worked on 106 different types of wastes some being jewelry units, textile scraps, paper surplus, coffee waste, etc, and have been able to create over 180 products. The new bricks are supposed to be sold at ₹2.8 per piece making them competent to regular bricks in the market.
