Be it theatre’s, concerts or sports – all such sources of recreation and enjoyment have been stopped because of the pandemic. This has drastic effects on both the consumer’s mental health and the organizers’ earnings. The only key for this lock is to come up with an innovative way to conduct these events so as to keep them safe for everyone.

Such an innovative initiative was witnessed in Mexico where the first drive-in Wrestling match was organized. A “Lucha Libre” match, Mexican term for professional Wrestling, was organized, amidst the pandemic. According to the guidelines, the audience could park their car around the wrestling ring and hear the commentary on their Car’s FM radio.  Just like drive-in theatres, this is a drive-in-stadium where you can watch the match, listen to the commentary and also cheer for your team or player. You can experience that stadium feeling after months of watching sports on your television screen.

The only difference is that you need to do all this from inside your cars. People should not, but can, step out of the car if they follow the defined rules. If required they can sit on a lawn chair outside the car. In such a case, a distance of 6 feet is mandatory between every two people and also, they cannot sit in a group of more than 10 people.

One one hand, The guidelines for this kind of a  match cater to the state guidelines for prevention from COVID-19 and on the other, the whole experience of this new structure will be something new and exciting for everyone. Using cars as a tool to prevent physical contact and spread of germs in a mass gathering is an innovative approach to adapt during the pandemic.

Sports around the globe, due to their mass-gathering nature have been cancelled or postponed. Lucha Libre, Mexican local name for wrestling was organised in an entertaining as well a safe way.
Due to various public grounds and parking spaces around the globe, being either shut or witnessing minimal engagement, these locations can be used to conduct drive-in events. Also, this will be attractive to the audience as they finally can go out to watch something exciting and refreshing after months of working from home. Using cars as a tool to prevent physical contact and spread of germs in a mass gathering is an innovative approach to adapt with the pandemic.
