Celebrating the spirit of Made in India, Siddhartha Bagri, co-founder of Pravaig Dynamics, and his team created India’s first electric car with nearly 90% of the vehicle (by mass) made in India only. The Conceptual Extinction MKI is the pre-production model with a 96 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that generates an output of 200 brake horsepower (bhp) with a top speed of 196 kmph.

Although, Extinction MKI is only a conceptual car, to pave a path for Extinction MKII. The company claims that they have seen MKI’s range go above 600 km, but due to climatic factors, they released 504km as their official range. Extinction MKI standout even when comparing it with the industry leaded Tesla, whose Model Y Long Range has a battery range of approximately 525 km which is only a few km more than the range of MKI. Comparing with cars like the Hyundai Kona with a 452 km range, the MG ZS EV with a 340 km range, and Mercedes-Benz EQC with a 350 km range only, Extinction MKI is the clear winner.

Pravaig also claims that their battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80% in just 30 minutes and the lifecycle of the battery is about 10 lakh km. So now you must be thinking, when can we get one!? NO, you can’t buy one. Instead, the company will lease the cars — along with a driver — to fleet operators. The thinking behind it is that to recover the initial purchase price of EVs the cars need to be run continuously and thus take advantage of low running costs. The 500km range is intended to see the car tackle multiple runs to the airport, in a city like Bengaluru for instance, and only needing to be charged overnight. Pravaig will also be installing chargers at the offices of the companies who have leased the car and their leasing costs will cover the cost of electricity consumed by the car.

Automotive companies should analyze the current mobility trends and evolve with them, just like Pravaig. The company analyzed that the future is very likely to change with greater emphasis on public transport & shared mobility, and start working on Extinction MKI. Being used as a Taxi will ensure a continuous revenue stream for the company and the campaign giving stress on the time a vehicle spends on the road creates a niche that many consumers can relate to.
