Social Media Giant Announces New Feature

Instagram launches a new feature – Reels to provide an alternative to Tik Tok in India.

Instagram reins the social media world. In 2019, Instagram decided to launch Reels, an application notably similar to Tik Tok. Now, post the blacklisting of Chinese apps and Tik Tok being one of them, Instagram is planning to introduce Instagram Reels in India. According to reports, Instagram is testing Reels for India by offering it to a limited number of users before proceeding for wider outreach.

Instagram Reels will allow users to make 15-second videos with pre-recorded music clips and dialogues in the background and will be part of the main Instagram app. India accounted for the second-highest user base for Tik Tok after China and had over 200 million users and with this app being strikingly similar to Tik Tok, it is aiming to target the same group of users. According to a Facebook spokesperson’s statement, it seems that India may be experiencing an updated version of Reels which will include features more personalized and localized to the Indian user base.
