Sound the excuse is a soundboard that plays background audio in the midst of a meeting which can be used as an excuse to leave.
Be it classes, meetings, workshops, conferences etc. If these kinds of meetings go on all day, round the clock, they are no longer useful. Meetings being held regularly and continuously start to stress people. They slowly start affecting people’s mental health as they become burdensome, annoying, and troubling. People can no more avoid a call for being geographically away, traveling, or if they are on a family vacation.
“Sound the Excuse” was launched on October 10 on World Mental Health Day. The platform is the product of a collaboration between TBWA\London along with a men’s media platform “The Book of Man”. It allows people to leave a video call with an unquestionable excuse. This is a soundboard that helps you play audios in the midst of a video call. These audios are funny as well. For example, a friend getting locked in the toilet and asking to help him get out, a helicopter landing nearby, spilling tea on your laptop and many other realistic excuses with realistic sounds.
Keeping the issue of it being misused aside,”Sound the excuse” is a cool tool. But it may be used by students to annoy teachers who are already dealing with the adaptation process to new technologies, by employees to take a leave and by the general public to leave an event in great numbers, that will disappoint the organizers and may affect their mental health. These sounds will, after a point of time become easy to identify and recognize due to their regular use by people and popularity.
This is a funny tool, it’s innovative, it’s useful until the sounds and the excuses are new each time to avoid automatic identification and do not save ones mental health at the cost of the other.
