The popularity of sampling expanding creative possibilities in music.
Rather than just copying someone, sampling has been redefined as the possibility of recreating the work of each generation behind us and flourish the art up to its full potential. Despite being in the grey area there are entire websites dedicated to the creation and distribution of samples, to be used in tracks as their ingredients for the new generation to create their own music.
Sampling has gained popularity over the decade with hip-hop being the most prominent user. A report from TRACKLIB shows that over a quarter of the Billboard listed songs contained samples each year for the past decade with the biggest track of 2019 containing a sample too. Having its roots from the ’50s, sampling is even used by some of the biggest Pop artists like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. Drum sampling being one of the most popular tools has gained high success with the advancement in composing technology.
Despite a lot of legal issues and controversies, sampling is used as the brush to paint the picture of your creativity by many artists despite their stature making a completely different and new generation of music using the essence of the old one.
