With the pandemic hovering around the globe, everyone has been quarantined, doing work from home and following all the precautions from wearing masks to sanitize hands regularly. With all the new norms, comes new problems such as, not being able to rejuvenate, staying away from friends and family. This has led to a rise in mental stress among youth. Suicide rates have been rising. Not only the public but also commerce and trade faced a major hit. Whenever there is a problem, someone there develops a solution and the same happened in this pandemic.

The trend of Pod Vacation is on the rise due to the pandemic. The trend basically follows little and occasional short trips with a group of trusted and tested people. Less affected areas have been going on these Pod vacations primarily because of the brief change of scenery with the group of friends. Although these travels are considered “non-essential”, but if standard guidelines are followed, it is of no harm. The destination or the cabin has to be within driving distance so as to minimize the usage of public transport. Along with that rather than hotels, private cabins or Air Bnbs are preferred so that contact with other people is not within anybody’s control. Everyone is supposed to quarantine for a week leading up to the trip. Moreover, before going to the trip people are being voluntarily tested so that there is no risk of transmitting the virus and spreading it in the community furthermore. As the restaurants outside are yet to be opened in several areas, still people are more inclined towards cooking at home and have been planning to cook all their meals in the cabin itself.

The travel and tourism industry is seeing an overhaul in the aftermath of the pandemic. From vacation pods to private jets, travelers and vacationers are willing to travel with people who are minded enough to minimize the risk of spreading the disease. This is a great opportunity for luxury hotels and vacation spots. Cruise lines, hotels and guided vacation companies are pivoting to court luxury business and meet new pandemic-era wants and needs. Thus leading to a win-win situation for both the travelers as well as the tourism industry. Relying on the WHO statement, the virus is here to stay, this trend will go a long way.
