The Anahad Foundation in its efforts to support folk artists raised 40L during the lockdown.
Brimming with enthusiasm for folk music since childhood, Abhinav Agrawal has paved a way for himself into a group of mostly forgotten artists from within villages & communities of India. This happened due to the creation of the Anahad Foundation – an NGO that is willing to do whatever it takes to keep folk music alive and spread its message globally.
What started off as a way to try and keep the art alive, has now turned into a technology-led solutions platform, helping & empowering communities that have folk music at the center of their existence. Amidst all the progress made by the team, the country was hit by the nationwide lockdown that affected these communities’ livelihoods immensely. The Anahad Foundation responded by organizing a fundraising concert aptly named, “Let’s Folk Together” to help support them.
The efforts didn’t just stop at fundraising, the team managed to use technology to once again support these artists by providing them access to a larger audience – no matter how remote their location – via an online live series. They called this series “Chaukhat Ki Goonj” and used this platform to raise nearly INR 40 Lakhs for their Artist Relief Fund.
A great example of how technology can play even a small role in helping all of humanity take care of each other, getting past hurdles and progressing to a better future.
